Our Philosophy

The University Health Clinic is committed to providing you
with the highest quality medicines, nutritional supplements
and botanicals available. In order to accomplish this we have
acquired, over the last twenty years, an extensive inventory
of the highest quality products on the market to ensure
proper dosing, pure ingredients, standardization and quality
control. Because of this, many of our products are not
commonly available at health food stores, but can only be
purchased through holistic pharmacies and health
practitioners' offices. The potency and quality assurances
that these products adhere to make them only available by
prescription.
Pharmaceutical Grade

As a full prescriptive pharmacy, the UHC dispensary does not
charge you sales tax on prescription items. It is also why
our front desk staff cannot give you items that you and your
physician have not discussed. We do this to abide by state
law, but also as a protection for you. Your physician needs
to know about all of the medications and supplements you take
in order to avoid interactions and maintain proper dosage
schedules.
On Principle

Having the UHC dispensary as part of our clinic facilities is
also convenient to you, saving time and energy. We do not
expect you to buy all of your supplements at the UHC and
sometimes recommend you get them at other locations where
they may be available. As a small clinic, we cannot buy in
bulk like a large pharmacy or chain is able. This means that
some of our items can be found for cheaper prices elsewhere
and we encourage you to seek those out. Cod liver oil is a
great example of this. Often, you can find some of the same
brands we carry at larger pharmacies and health food stores
at a cheaper price than we can offer. Other items we do not
carry at all because they are so readily available in stores
or on the internet. Our hope is to provide the highest
quality items that you would not be able to access, at the
best price and convenience, so that you may get started on
your treatment program and feel better.
Quality

As you may well know, herbal and vitamin supplements are not
regulated by the Food and Drug Administration. This reason
alone is why insurances rightly view them as 'food', not
medicine, and will not pay for them like other pharmaceutical
medicines. This is changing slowly as some Health Savings
Accounts are beginning to recognize their value and are
reimbursing patients on their purchases. The unregulated
status of supplements is why we carry the brands we do. Every
company's products we carry, test, certify and can provide us
with laboratory analyses showing that what they put on the
label is really what is in the capsule. If the company can't
comply with this, we don't carry their products. We also try
to work with exclusively organic ingredients and socially and
environmentally responsible companies. We never use
multi-level marketed companies and we do not have any
financial interests or ownership in any of the companies we
carry. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask
your doctor or the front desk for assistance. Our inventory
list is below for you convenience.
Principles

Healthcare providers are welcome to call or fax in
prescriptions or send scripts with patients if we can provide
a necessary item. We can also provide a list of our single
herbs in tincture form if you would like to have us prepare
botanical formulas for you. The UHC Dispensary also carries a
number of 12C homeopathic preparations for provider
convenience. We welcome you to send us your inventory list,
as you may carry items we do not, and could make it easier
for our patients to get hard-to-find items. Thank you.
